Township Canada Data Sources
The public datasets behind Township Canada's Energy and Agriculture bundles - what each one is, who publishes it, how often it refreshes, and how we surface it on the map and in the parcel report.
Township Canada is built on public, authoritative datasets. We ingest each one, refresh it on a schedule, and pre-join it to the Dominion Land Survey grid so a single parcel search returns everything underneath the quarter section. This catalog explains each source: what it is, who publishes it, what it carries, and where you see it in the product.
Energy datasets
The Energy Bundle draws on twelve sources, joined to every Legal Subdivision.
- AER ST37 Wells - the List of Wells in Alberta, with lifecycle status.
- AER ST76 Pipelines - the licensed pipeline network.
- AER ST102 Facilities - batteries, gas plants, and more, in eight categories.
- Crown PNG Tenure - Alberta petroleum and natural gas agreements.
- Crown Mineral Tenure - metallic, coal, and ammonite agreements.
- Orphan and Abandoned Wells - the OWA inventory and the abandoned-well registry.
- Petrinex Volumetrics - per-well, per-product production volumes.
- AER ST101 BA Snapshot - per-operator liability rollups.
- CCS Tenure - carbon-capture pore-space tenure and injection wells.
- Geothermal Tenure - provincial geothermal agreements.
- Oil and Gas Fields - named field and pool polygons.
- Petrinex Well Status - cross-province well status for Alberta and Saskatchewan.

The Agriculture Bundle draws on seven sources, joined to every quarter section.
- AAFC Annual Crop Inventory - five-year crop history and rotation.
- AAFC Land Use v5 - dominant land-use class per quarter section.
- AGRASID 4.1 and LSRS - Alberta soil polygons and the productivity score.
- Soil Landscapes of Canada - the national soil fallback outside Alberta.
- CLI Land Capability - the national agricultural-capability baseline.
- Canadian Drought Monitor - current drought-severity polygons.
- Composite Quarter-Section Layer - every dataset above, pre-joined per quarter section.
