Common questions
What is the LSRS Productivity Score?
LSRS (Land Suitability Rating System) is Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's standard productivity rating for spring-seeded small-grain cropland. We compute and publish the 0–100 score per quarter section with the primary limiting factor (climate, soil, landscape) attached. It's the score appraisers and lenders already use — we just make it instantly searchable.
Can I try the Agriculture Bundle before subscribing?
Pro and Business subscribers get one free parcel report — so you can see exactly what an Agriculture report looks like for a parcel you care about before adding the bundle. Cancel any time after that.
How often does crop and soil data refresh?
AAFC Crop Inventory refreshes annually in January (covering the prior growing season). AGRASID/LSRS refreshes annually each June. The Drought Monitor refreshes monthly on the 10th. Soil Landscapes of Canada and CLI Capability are essentially static reference layers.
What's covered outside Alberta?
AGRASID's high-resolution soil polygons and LSRS scoring are Alberta-only. Outside AB, we use Soil Landscapes of Canada as the soil fallback (lower resolution but national). AAFC Crop Inventory, AAFC Land Use, CLI Capability, and Drought Monitor cover all of BC, SK, AB, and MB at consistent quality.
Is there an API for agriculture data?
Yes — the Agriculture Bundle includes API access via the standard Township Canada API. Pass a QS or LSD and get the full ag attribute set back as JSON, including the productivity score and limiter. Ideal for batch portfolio scoring. See the API docs for endpoints.
Can I integrate with my GIS or appraisal workflow?
Yes. The API returns GeoJSON for the QS boundary plus all ag attributes — drop it straight into QGIS, ArcGIS, or your appraisal software. We also publish a Snowflake Native App for teams that already model land in Snowflake.
What's the difference between Agriculture and the Energy Bundle?
They're independent add-ons covering different data domains. Many appraisers and land-services teams subscribe to both because a single quarter section often has high-productivity cropland and energy infrastructure — the combined PDF report shows both perspectives on one page.
