Township Canada in ChatGPT and Claude
Add the published Township Canada community connector in Claude, connect ChatGPT over MCP, and use the plugin to convert land descriptions and read parcel reports.
Use Township Canada inside your AI app to convert Canadian legal land descriptions, find the description at GPS coordinates, and read parcel reports. Township Canada is published in the Claude Connectors Directory as a community connector.
You need an active Township Canada Pro or Business plan. You sign in with your own account and approve access. Your web plan covers the Township Canada tools; access to connectors in your AI app depends on that app's settings and plan.
Connect in Claude
- Open the Township Canada listing in the Claude Connectors Directory and start connecting.
- Sign in to Township Canada with your usual email code, magic link, Google, or Microsoft account.
- Review the access request and select Allow.
- Return to Claude and enable Township Canada for the conversation, then ask: "Where is NW-36-42-3-W5? Show it on a map."
Connect in ChatGPT or another MCP app
In an app that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth, add a custom app or connector using this server address:
https://townshipcanada.com/mcp
Choose OAuth authentication, then sign in to Township Canada and approve access. In ChatGPT, custom MCP apps use developer mode where available. Your workspace administrator may need to enable access. See OpenAI's developer mode and MCP app instructions for current availability and settings.
The connection uses your Township Canada subscription. You do not need a REST API subscription or an API key.
Use the Township Canada plugin
The Township Canada plugin connects to the same MCP server and adds two skills:
- Convert land descriptions: choose the appropriate lookup for a description, coordinates, or a list, and report the returned location.
- Parcel due diligence: summarize a parcel report with its sources, dates, and the Agriculture or Energy detail included in your account.
A connector gives the AI app access to the tools. The plugin also supplies these workflow instructions. Both use the same Township Canada plan and allowances.
For Claude Code, you can also load an unpacked Township Canada plugin package locally:
claude --plugin-dir /path/to/townshipcanada
Then use /mcp to sign in to Township Canada.
What to ask
| Task | Example prompt | Township Canada plan |
|---|---|---|
| Locate a parcel | "Where is NW-36-42-3-W5? Show it on a map." | Pro or Business |
| Find a legal description | "What legal land description is at 52.6651, -114.3075?" | Pro or Business |
| Convert a list | "Convert these to coordinates: 10-36-42-3-W5, 14-7-13-21-W4, A-1-B/93-G-14." | Business |
| Read a parcel report | "Pull the parcel report for 14-7-13-21-W4. Are there wells on it?" | Pro or Business, with Energy for well detail |
| Check allowances | "What plan am I on, and how many batch records do I have left this month?" | Connected account |
Land results include a parcel view, with a satellite map where the host supports it, and an Open in Township Canada link. Use that link for the full survey grid, directions, and saving locations.
Coordinates are the parcel's centre in WGS84 decimal degrees. They are not surveyed property corners or an exact wellhead or gate location.
Plans and usage
Searches are unlimited on Pro and Business. Batch conversion needs Business and accepts up to 200 items per request. Successfully converted records count toward your account's batch allowance.
Parcel reports include the same data as the web app. Agriculture and Energy detail requires the corresponding add-on. An add-on report counts once per parcel per calendar month toward your report allowance, including reports already opened on the web.
See plans and allowances. If your plan ends, the AI app's access to the land tools stops even if it still has a connection.
Privacy and disconnecting
The five MCP tools are read-only. They look up land data and check your plan and allowances; they cannot change your projects, saved places, team, billing, or account settings. Township Canada receives the arguments sent to its tools, such as descriptions, coordinates, and lists, rather than your full conversation.
To disconnect, open your Township Canada account, find AI Apps, and select Disconnect. Access stops immediately. You can also remove the connector from your AI app.
If the connection does not work
- Plan required: sign in with the account that holds your active Pro or Business plan.
- Batch conversion refused: check that you have Business and enough batch allowance. Keep each request to 200 items or fewer.
- Report detail missing: check whether your account includes the Agriculture or Energy add-on for that detail.
- Custom connection unavailable: check the AI app's connector settings or ask your workspace administrator to enable it.
- Description not found: include the complete description, including its meridian for DLS. Ask the AI app to show the input it sent so you can check it.
