Parcel Intelligence: What the Agriculture and Energy Add-ons Measure, and Where the Data Comes From
Every dataset behind Township Canada's Agriculture and Energy parcel reports, which metrics are third-party source data and which are Township Canada-derived, and how the Productivity Score is built.
The Agriculture and Energy add-ons are parcel-intelligence products. You are paying for a curated, parcel-keyed view of public datasets plus a small number of metrics Township Canada derives from them. This page lists both so you can judge what a report is worth for your work.
What one report is
One report is one parcel's intelligence in a billing month. For Agriculture that is the quarter section; for Energy it is the legal subdivision (LSD). The report tab, the PDF and every card that feeds them are the same report. Opening the parcel again, browsing the map, or reloading never counts again. Each add-on includes a monthly allowance of reports (see pricing). Bulk enrichment of thousands of parcels is an Enterprise workflow.

How the Productivity Score is built
The score is a Township Canada composite, not a government rating:
- 50% soil: the LSRS score where Alberta publishes one, otherwise a soil-group fallback
- 30% capability: the CLI class normalized so class 1 is best
- 20% crop diversity: a Shannon index over the five-year rotation
The weighted total is multiplied by a small drought modifier keyed on the current Canadian Drought Monitor class, then clamped to 0 to 100 and banded for display. The report shows which inputs were present so you can see how much of the score rests on measured data. It is a comparable-parcel ranking signal, not an appraisal value or a yield forecast.
Coverage
Productivity Score and LSRS are Alberta only today. BC uses a different capability scale and is not blended in; Saskatchewan and Manitoba have no open productivity rating, so the score there leans on capability and crop history with a soil fallback. Crop inventory, land use, CLI and drought are national. Crop, soil and capability layers refresh annually; drought monthly.

There is no composite energy score. Energy intelligence is presented as counts, rollups and proximity metrics with the source visible on every card.
Coverage
Best in Alberta (AER and Petrinex). Saskatchewan and BC registers are loaded but sparser; Manitoba is tenure only. Operator snapshots are Alberta only. Wells, pipelines, facilities and production refresh monthly; tenure weekly; business associate codes quarterly.

Township Canada does not own these datasets. Derived values are redistributed under each publisher's open-data terms, and every surface that shows AER-derived values carries the AER attribution. If you need the raw datasets, go to the publisher; if you need them keyed to a legal land description with the derived metrics above, that is what the add-ons are for.
