Utilities & rights of way · Pilot

Every quarter section on a proposed route, with the land and infrastructure already there.

Send an alignment as a GeoJSON line. We return one row per quarter section it crosses, with the indicative right-of-way footprint at an assumed width, land use, dominant crop, Productivity Score, existing pipeline and water crossings, and wells, with the source and data date on every section.

The job it removes

Less portal work before the real work.

Route planning needs a parcel list and the context for each parcel: how the land is used, how productive it is, which wells and lines are already there, and where the route crosses water. That usually starts with converting the route to legal locations and then looking each one up. The pack does both steps and returns one row per quarter section.

Who it is for

Electric and transmission utilities

Parcel-level land context along a candidate line, before routing decisions and landowner contact.

Telecom and fibre builders

Which parcels a build crosses, what is already on them, and how the land is used.

Water and linear infrastructure

Crossings with existing pipelines and mapped water along the alignment.

What's in the pack

One row per quarter section on the route.

Built on the same corridor engine as the pipeline pack, with an alignment summary on top and the crossings below the quarter table.

Quarter sections crossed
Buffer in metres
Every quarter section the alignment passes through, with municipality and the metres of centreline in it. A quarter is a legal land unit, not an ownership parcel.
Indicative ROW footprint
Assumed width
Alignment length times an assumed right-of-way width (30 m unless you give us one), in acres for the whole route and for each quarter. A scoping number to replace with your design width, not an easement area.
Land use and dominant crop
AAFC
The AAFC land-use class and dominant crop for each quarter, and alignment length by land-use class, including the length on cropland quarters.
Productivity Score
0 to 100
The Productivity Score for each quarter. Alberta scores use the LSRS soil rating; Saskatchewan and Manitoba scores use a national soil fallback.
Pipeline and water crossings
AB · SK · 1:50,000 water
Points where the alignment crosses an existing pipeline, a mapped watercourse, or a water body, with chainage. Pipeline crossings list licence and line, licensee, substance, and status.
Wells
AB · SK · MB
Wells in the LSDs the buffer touches, totalled per quarter, and wells and orphan wells within the buffer.
Source and data date
Every section
Each section names its dataset and publisher, with the licence, refresh cadence, and an as-of date where the data load records one, so you can cite it or check it.

What it is not

Evidence for a professional, not the professional's work.

The ROW and Land Context Pack assembles what the public record shows. The judgment, the site work, and the signature stay with you.

  • Not a route design, a legal survey, or an easement document.
  • No landowner names, title, or registered interests.
  • Not an environmental permit application or impact assessment.
  • No road or railway crossings, and no existing electric, telecom, or water lines. Only pipeline and mapped water crossings are reported.
  • Not a soil survey: the pack carries the Productivity Score and dominant crop per quarter, not soil series, drainage, or capability class.
  • Pipelines and facilities cover Alberta and Saskatchewan. Manitoba quarters report wells only, and British Columbia (NTS) alignments are not supported yet.
Pilot

Request a sample pack for your parcels.

We run the pack for your parcels and send you the files. No account or checkout needed for the pilot.

  1. 1. Send your parcels

Legal land descriptions (DLS quarter sections or LSDs in Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba), or a corridor as a GeoJSON line. A handful is enough for a first pack.

  2. 2. We run the pack

We build the pack from the same data behind the Township Canada parcel report, with the source and data date on every section.

  3. 3. You get the files

JSON, CSV, and GeoJSON for your own tools, plus a printable report you can put in the file.

FAQ

Common questions

What format should the route be in?
A GeoJSON LineString, MultiLineString, or FeatureCollection in WGS84, with a buffer width in metres and, if you have one, your design right-of-way width. Lists of legal land descriptions are not accepted for route packs yet. The input shape is the same as the pipeline corridor integration.
Does it include landowner or title information?
No. The pack covers land characteristics and published infrastructure, not ownership or registered interests.
How is the pack delivered?
During the pilot we run the pack for your parcels and send you the files: JSON, CSV, and GeoJSON for your own tools, plus a printable report. There is no self-serve upload yet.
How current is the data?
Alberta regulator well, pipeline, and facility data refresh monthly, and Saskatchewan loads run weekly to monthly. The Canadian Drought Monitor refreshes monthly and the AAFC crop inventory is annual. Every section names its source and refresh cadence, with an as-of date where the data load records one, so you can see which vintage you are looking at.
What does it cost?
The pilot pack has no published price yet. Tell us what you would use it for and we will talk about it. The parcel report bundles and APIs that power it are priced on the pricing page.
